LOSS OF LEG POWER
This effect was very disconcerting!
LOWER BACK WEAKNESS
To be more accurate, it was probably more of a weakness in the lower back.
SUDDEN ‘LOSS OF STANDING-POWER’
When standing, very occasionally but without warning,
there was a ‘jolt’ and my legs would ‘give-way’, meaning immediately
I had to grab onto something to stop me from fully collapsing.
WHILE SEEKING A ‘CONTRACT’
Once, this happened in front of a business person
with whom I was discussing possibly contracting our services to.
It certainly took them by surprise when I suddenly slumped
and heavily placed my forearms onto the high bench top to steady myself -
we did get the contract, but did have to assure them
that the ‘slumping’ was very rare.
BEGAN TO AVOID GETTING A ‘COLD BACK’
I soon realised that this ‘slumping’ only happened
when my lower back in particular got cold.
So I started to make sure I dressed more warmly - even indoors -
and if I did start to feel my lower back getting cold,
made efforts to change that situation as quickly as possible.
DIDN’T HAPPEN TOO OFTEN
Once the association with coldness of the lower back was established,
the ‘slumping’ happened less and less, so mainly occurred over a coupe of years
in the early part of the 1990s.
GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN?
Pretty much haven’t had a ‘slumping’ event in a very long time now,
but do occasionally feel like it might be getting close sometimes
- sort of like little jolts in the lower back -
especially when the lower back gets quite cold.
