CORTISONE INJECTIONS
I acknowledge there are many styles of every health protocol/sector
and each Practitioner within, often has their own particular preferences/techniques.
STARTED EARLY IN LIFE
Persistent elbow problems particularly in my right arm,
lead the doctor to recommend trying cortisone injections into the relevant elbow.
I was probably about 10 or so years old
because I remember getting one at 15
and I had decided by the time I got that one,
that for all the cortisone injections injected into me over a few years,
I had never really benefited for any good length of time from them
and that it was going to be my least preferred option from then on.
PAINFUL DURING AND AFTER
Often the injections were very painful to receive
- have fluid forced into an elbow joint is no fun -
and often had to ‘rest that arm’ for 3-5 days afterwards.
MEDICAL DEBATE
The benefits of synthetic steriods such as cortisone
have been debated in medical circles for decades -
even the horse racing industry questions its ethicalness
as well as its overall effectiveness.
CARRIED-FORWARD WARINESS
I feel that my experiences with cortisone injections
underlies my overall questioning of the
medical profession’s ‘over reliance’ on pharmaceuticals -
yes pharma has it place, but not everywhere, anywhere and only that.
