DRIVEWAY CHAIN
One of those ‘sliding doors’ moments.
With a few of the lads, we were all ‘whooping it up’ a bit at a Uni campus party.
We were gathered away from the main party building,
when one of the lads smashed a light fitting.
So we all started to run away from the damage and back towards the party.
We quickly got to the main library building and we split directions -
with me and two others heading into a less lit-up side.
BIG MISTAKE!
We had headed into a driveway area which was ‘guarded’ by a heavish chain
to stop unauthorized vehicles using the driveway.
I - at some speed - hit the chain first and as I ‘tensioned’ the chain,
it scraped its way up my shins and I quickly hit the gound,
only just managing to get my hands down to ‘soften’ the impact.
The next bloke hit the chain after I had tensioned it and he ended up next to me.
The third bloke got less impeded by the chain
and ended up on top of me.
TEMPORARY ‘PARALYSIS’
I could hardly moved the body let alone my legs!
it took about 5 minutes before I could get up
and hobble my way back to the party.
The third bloke hardly had any damage.
The second bloke needed a few stitches
to close a smallish hole in one of his lower legs.
SCAR TISSUE FOR YEARS
I thought I had got away with just some very tender shins for a while,
along with some very noticeable longish scars, especially on my left shin,
but it was many years before these injuries got ‘better’ -
which wasn’t until the ‘Meridian Man’ first gave them a good ‘scraping’
that I realised the extent of the damage then done to my lower legs.
