PHYSICAL BREAKDOWN In my 27th year, the cumulative effect of my body-damaging incidents became too much, especially those from the cherry-picker tipover. IMMEDIATE AFTERMATH OF ‘THE TIPOVER’ The most obvious initial injuries were a broken left wrist plus a very sore body and head. Once home from the overnight stay in hospital, the following week was focused on resting up and a few warm baths to relieve the aching body. After 6 weeks I was back at work - still fairly sore - but able to work at about 60-70% capapcity. MORE NOTICEABLE OVER NEXT TWO YEARS While in the short term the ‘cherry-picker’ injuries improved, I was soon needing to get some relief from lingering/recurring pains, which included attending sessions from a ‘rolfing’/deep-tissue masseur, whose considerable skills provided some benefits, but not enough to stop the more and more noticeable deteriorisation of the body. It became - harder to get up from sitting in a chair, harder to work ‘at-pace’ all day, harder to get out of bed, harder to get dressed - to the point where early one morning, I awoke with the ‘sheets hurting me’ and when I finally got to work, I could hardly get out of the vehicle. The body was not good! PHYSICAL BREAKDOWN Basically two years after ‘the tipover’, the body could not operate at a level any near where it used to pre-tipover. My body had reached a point where it would hardly do any physical tasks - even cleaning my teeth was diffcult - in effect, reaching a point of physical breakdown. MANY INJURIES The cherry-picker and other list of injuries I was trying to live with were now numerous - to summarize some of the major ones - multiple head trauma including concussion, at least two major whiplash incidents, weakened right shoulder, damaged left lower arm/wrist, spine bent in ways it shouldn’t be, right glute deep bruising, and tail bone compression/bruising. I could no longer work in my business, so the machines were sold and a relocation was made to live in the region’s port ‘city’. MANY THERAPIES Over the next nearly 20 years, I used many forms of therapy all aimed at avoiding surgery and/or pharma drugs. DEVELOPMENT OF “S-P-C” By early 2009, it became obvious that I needed to do ‘more myself’, than relying mainly on other people/professionals to ‘fix my body’. I had already started to develop ‘modified’ exercises and stretches, in an effort make it easier for (say) the chiropractor to manipulate my spine. But it wasn’t enough and hence the further development of what has become “Self-Physi-Chiro”. LIVED EXPERIENCE By the time I was 25 years old (the late 1980s), I had experienced a number of injury-causing incidents, so by the time I was half way through my 27th year, the accumulation of injuries lead to a physical breakdown and I could no longer continue working in my own contracting business servicing orchardists. And so began a journey of constructing a new life, including a focus on improving my physical health - especially my muscular-skeletal health - which after trying many forms of therapy predominantly aimed at avoiding surgery and/or constant use of pharmaceuticals/meds, I developed what has become “Self-Physi-Chiro”. WAS TOLD ‘SELF-CHIRO’ CAN’T BE DONE In the early stages of developing “S-P-C”, I happened to socially pass by my very capable (ex-)chiropractor - with whom I have a very respectful and friendly rapport - whom I had not visited for about 2 years. In reply to their enquiry as to how I was (physically) going - them being very aware of my physical issues - I mentioned my self-physio and self-chiro techniques I was developing in an effort to alleviate/fix my physical aliments. Their reply was curt and to the point - “You can’t do your own chiro”. I thanked them for their point of view but said I would continue doing ‘it’, without elaborating that I had already had success with ‘fixing’ a few of my injuries. GETTING THE BODY TO ‘SELF-CHIRO’ To a point, my (ex-)Chiro was correct about not being able to ‘self-chiro’, but … “S-P-C” is NOT about me doing ‘my own chiro’. “S-P-C” encourages one’s body to do ‘chiro-adjustment/s’ when one’s body determines it is safe-ish to do so. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ (Back) To… ‘Therapies Tried’ List Page (Back) To… “S-P-C” Mini-Map ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ WARNING: “Self-Physi-Chiro” may make it easier for you to form positive changes within and to your health/life. © SteveKineez © ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ For whole site overview, visit … Steve “Kineez” SITE MAP Site-Wide Disclaimer and Copyright Notices
